Having
broken my neck I suffer from tetraplegia, which means paralysis in all
four limbs. My legs are totally paralysed, while my arms are partially
paralysed, with no hand function. I use an electric wheelchair and have
a specially adapted car which takes me in my wheelchair without me
having to transfer to a normal car seat. I depend on my personal
assistant to a drive for me.
My Car
As
with all people who suffer a spinal cord injury I am incontinent, which
means I have no voluntary control over my bladder and bowels. However,
this is well controlled, but does require intimate personal help from
my assistants. Just because I use a wheelchair and need the help of
care assistants, it does not mean I'm sick - I'm just disabled, so I
don't need qualified nurses etc. and don't have to see a doctor any
more than anyone else.
